In the past couple of years, model risk has drawn an increasing attention from the financial industry and regulators, in the wake of the 2008 financial risks and more stringent regulation overhaul followed.

Enterprise model risk management, including model vetting and validation, is now one of the key functions of risk management.

In this presentation, Former manager of RBC Enterprise Model Risk Management, Dr. Fanpeng Dong will introduce the functionality of model risk management, how does it work in a bank structure, key model risk factors of different line of businesses and skills required to work in corresponding areas. In addition, the life-cycle management of models and real-life case will be discussed, which will deliver a visualized understanding and clearer image.

                        Dr. Fangpeng Dong Manager, BMO Capital Markets

Dr. Dong is currently a manager at Market Risk group in BMO Capital Markets. He has a Ph.D of computer science and Master of Management Science from Queen’s University.

With over 3 years’ model risk management experience at Royal Bank of Canada and excellent knowledge of model validation, Dr. Dong will share with us the essences of model risk management.

                                                      Mr. Yuchen Wu

- 4th year undergraduate at University of Toronto specialize in Finance and Economics
- Six years of trading experience on stocks, options, futures, CFDs, and forex in North American and Asian markets
- Built Bitcoin arbitrage model between domestic and Asian market
- Studied both Eastern and Western philosophy for four years and applied to trading
- Created trading system by combining self-developed fundamental analysis model and channel analysis model
- Leading various teams in trading competitions representing University of Toronto - Rotman Commerce
- Currently working on a research paper: 1944-1971 : how the U.S. dollar replaced gold and became the world currency
